Update

I have completed 3 commercials and have shot footage for a 4th, and I have only been working there for 3 weeks, as of yesterday. I am working on a showcase page to display what I have created for Brighthouse Networks (which all these upcoming commercials are owned by, there is my disclaimer :) )

I am about halfway through on a large wall mural, which i will get pics up for, and if i can ever stop being so tired, i will finish Keith's tattoo(s). Thank goodness they are free, i feel terrible that it is taking me so long :(

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Long time, no real post! Sorry. The move took a lot longer than I thought it would have, but work has been progressing on a few projects. Keith Corely has been very patient on his long in the making tattoo projects, they are getting close to completion. I have done a lot of work on some corporate identity stuff for The Doghouse, LLC, with a website soon to follow. But the biggest announcement is this...

I have been hired by Brighthouse, the florida cable company, to produce and direct commercials!! The plus side? a lot more of my work will make its way to the airwaves for everyone to see. I will provide links when applicable. The downside? I will not be making any more commercials under the ronin banner for as long as I work with Brighthouse, as that would be deemed a "Conflict of Interest".

Ronin will continue, however, its web design, graphic design, animation (short film only), and illustration.

I am currently working on getting some of the latest work up on the site. I am also starting ronindms.com version 3 soon, it will be all flash. You will simply be prompted to choose html or flash, and whichever you choose will bring you to the current or new site.

more as it comes!!

OKEY DOKEY...

Well, It's time. Time to man up. After taking a few days off and enjoying being free from school, it's time to get this train moving again. I have been fortunate enough to begin negotiations on 2 possible new websites as well as some corporate identity stuff, but I need to get this studio out there and get some more projects beyond that in the pipeline. For fun I am going to create a short 3d animation based on a ninja turtle, and I am scripting out a new mock commercial to show for promo purposes. I would LOVE a new portrait to paint. Really. more as it comes...

Phew...

The new porfolio is done and at the print shop as i type this, its a 25 page monstrosity of artistic mayhem and beauty, I like it a lot. Most likely by tomorrow I will have it online, replacing the old print portfolio which I will have re-assigned to one of the sketchbook numbers at the bottom of my page.

The DVD is done, it is quite a trip seeing my movies on a tv screen, coming from a normal dvd player. It has Demo Reel 2007, Fever Dreams Final Cut, and a lightened up version of Spyder L3 GS.

Anybody who knows me personally knows that I do most of my work on PC based workstations, my home studio reflects that. I have nothing against macs, I am actually quite fluent with them and if they didn't cost so damn much I would probably own one just to have one, but I have always said that you get more flexibility and bang for your buck with PCs. The only reason I bring this up is because today, in a pinch, I built and authored the DVD on DVD Pro Studio, which is on a mac at school. For the most part, a wonderful piece of software. I don't know if it is because I am just that fluent in design programs or it is just laid out that well, but I sat down and within minutes was creating like I had always used that program. Well done. It's probably one of the few times I prefer other software to an Adobe product, but until CS3 comes out, Encore has been beat out by it's apple competition.

Other Stuff:

I know I said I was totally done with FD, so THIS is the last post about it until I have the DVD ready.... In lieu of the promised full extra ending, I am going to put the option to watch the movie in 3d (good ol' campy 1950's style, glasses and all) as the bonus feature, which I think is way cooler than an alternate ending that wouldn't have totally fit anyways. Plus, now, when you get the chance to buy it, you get a real extra feature. I will still be "giving it away free" with the donation of at least $10 (plus shipping, better make it $13) to the upcoming paypal Donation/Booking area.

Also, as a cool treat, I haven't even said one peep about my next movie, which will be a really cool take on my demo reel, and that IT'S ALREADY ALMOST DONE!! My goal is to have both the Demo Reel playing on my page at ronin, and have fever dreams v1.0, v2.0, the original trailer, and Spider L3 Gs playing in my movies tab by the end of the week.

EXTRA EXTRA Bonus!!

www.winstonbilliards.net will hopefully be just about done at the end of the week as well (which means $$$ for me :) ) So check it out, and my first online Sketchbook will be viewable as well in it's own handy gallery!!

The text from the last post....

The last post was supposed to have this text, but I goofed:

Fever Dreams was initially completed about a month ago, at least that is what the posts say, give or take a week or so. It got a pretty good reception, applause and good jobs all around, but I wasn't happy with it. I have been jibbering about fixing lighting and tweaking animation and all this crazy talk about re-scored soundtracks. It is now done, and I will be happy to never touch it again. It's my baby, I love it, but as an artist sometimes you need to know when to cut the cord and just let it be. I did fix the lighting in a few areas that I thought it could use it, I added some effects here and there, polished some scenes that, to me, could have been better, and with the help of my friend Nate, we added some more dialogue, replaced a couple embarassing clips, added more sound effects, and I have now finally produced the version I am happy with. I am not going to design a completely new alternate ending, as when plugged in place of the standard ending, it was a bit much on the creature and I didn't think it fit, but if you stick around at the end of the credits, I did throw a bone to those that wanted a weirder ending. Here are some shots, before and after, of some of the tweeks to look for.

FeverDreams FUGGING DONE!! :) (Again)

I kinda lied...

Fever Dreams is technically done, but I found out some ways to make it look better than it does, so by saying earlier that I was going to redo the sound and now I am going to alter some of the visuals, I would have to say that I for the most part am really not quite as done as I thought. I will find a way to post the current version online ASAP, but a more polished product, visually and audio-wise, will be out in little more than a month. Winston's Billiards, my internship/website project, is going to be accessible after tonight, working on a nice under construction splash page and finishing drawing out my designs for the layout for approval soon.

Done.

Thats all that need be said. It's done. Going to show it tomorrow at the review. I mixed and scored it all myself, and I realized that I am no longer putting my own voice in projects, unless someone else is writing the script, because I sound like captain Obvious in the movie, haha. Nate and myself are going to completely rescore the entire soundtrack with all original music, better dialogue and sound fx for those that may cringe and some of the low quality of some of the sound effects used in this one, that should all be done in about a month when I will release the FINAL final version of Fever Dreams on it's own DVD, with an alternate ending, storyboards and early stuff, as well as the Camotion trailer. Until then, the current version, starting friday-ish, will be streaming from my section of www.ronindms.com.

It's getting closer!!

I have to say, I have finished 3 of the planned 7 scenes(although i may cut 1 scene due to quality), and the final product is looking so much better than imagined in the beginning. I won't lie, as more and more work has come my way, and with so many other big projects by other groups that started around the same time dissappearing and dropping out, I was pretty content with my trailer that i made a few months back that I showed at the Camotion film festival. I have to say though, that this is better than that. much better. so much better. 1 week to go, and I can show everybody!!

Version 2.0 almost done.

Version 2.0 of the website is almost up, and like any web designer cutting his teeth on his own, i have come to the realization that Internet Explorer SUCKS. It is sluggish as hell, and is vastly inferior to Firefox, which v2.0 is officially optimized for. Soon, soon there will be a fully functional site up and running, i am just embarassed at the sluggish performance in IE when it runs beautifully in Firefox. Oh well, pretty much as soon as I get done with the Fever Dreams movie (less than two weeks away) work on a flash version (which will be called 3.0) will start immediatly. I will cut my teeth in flash by designing the Winston's web site entirely in it. anyways, i have the flu, i will talk to you all later.

Time are a' changin'!

Project Bashant is Done! Pics up after the 12th. Possible new commission coming soon due to successful completion of Bahant, I will dub it Project New York. Negotiations are commencing on it, and I am hoping to to wrap that up soon. Paperwork is being finalized on Wilson's, hoping to commence work on that soon. and look out! Ronindms.com v2.0 is underway. What's planned is a more professional design for the site, and better organization for the members to distinguish themselves.

Newness In A New Month

We have landed our first contract in web design with Winston's in Rockville, MD (Thanks to Lauren Wilson), so they will be jumping up to the list of current projects. I am just finishing up with Project Bashant, although I wont be allowed to show pics of it until after the 12th. Keith, yes you, your tattoo artwork is finally getting from the brain to the paper, Fever Dreams is about to enter a phase of heavy work, the deadline for the finished movie is coming up in 5 weeks. The official relaunch of RoninDMS.com will be coming in 3 months, so keep an eye on the site as things will be changing and looking less like an online portfolio for just myself, and a more professional site for this studio, with separate sections for the member artists.

UPDATE!!

Well, another quarter has gone by and this esteemed artist is just about done with school and all graduated. What that means for this studio is that I am increasingly pressured to start and get some of my better work represented online, and so I am currently going through and re-cutting and copressing a number of older projects for web streaming, and I am hoping to have these old favorites up soon. As for Ronin projects having to do with the future, Ronin DMS website 2.0 is underway, breaking the chains of this simple Yahoo Small Biz Toolset. This version of the website has always been a quick and dirty version, done to get some content up quickly. Now that time and professionalism are factors, I am going to be ramping up my workload and improving about everything on this site.

I would also like to welcome back into the fold former associate William Hankins into the fold. He was our old web designer before the studio went on hiatus while I went back to school, and he has agreed to come back as an overflow technician for all web work and render farm activities for projects that require more time than our studio can handle here, and when we have a steady workflow, as a full time member of our crew.

Anyways, keep your eyes peeled for updates. Project Bashant is underway, the second wave of Fever Dreams work is underway, Tattoo artwork is being designed, and we have been contacted to design Winston's Pool Hall's website ($$$). We are getrting busy, BUT we still want more work from you :) later!!

tuessay, Tuesday, TUESDAY!!!

A day late and a dollar short, here is the update
I promised yesterday. Fever Dreams HQ is up and streaming, and the new Spyder L3 GS is now up and streaming, HQ only, I believe that it streams well enough to not need a LQ version. I will be making a similar movie, only Lighter, to satisfy those who thought that the night-time "dark edition" was a bit too dark. Enjoy!!

Re-Christened Blog

No longer simply "Project Journals", this is now the official blog for Ronin DMS, as you can most probably see form the title of the page :). This blog is reachable from the main site by just clicking on the link. It may not be the prettiest site (yet), but all the areas are starting to come together. more as it comes...

Updates...

Fever Dreams is coming along. I have begun work again on the rest of the movie, and i will get around to making a high def version of the current trailer soon, i have simply been putting it off since the low one is up, and if i stick a high def version before the show this friday, then people will have less a reason to attend the showing. Selfish? a little. Deal with it :)

I have also been working on a mock cg commercial for a "luxury" upgrade to your sports car, spider legs that can be attached that will enable the user to walk the car OVER traffic. Expect that on www.RoninDMS.com soon.

I have also decided that since I have enjoyed blogging on this site so much, "Project Journals" will evolve from just Fever Dreams news and updates to being the official "Ronin DMS" studio blog, so you will get updates a bit more frequently about a variety of projects, whatever is on my plate, which can be quite a few projects (hopefully soon PAID projects).

Later!!

NEW PICS!! NEWS!!

Here are a whole bunch of new pics on the current state of the artwork for "Fever Dreams". I finally modeled out the night creature, the roaches, and a few clean shots of the room (more to be added in terms of "lived in" detail for the room). In my next update, I will have shots of the gun, some sketches for the 2d scene, some tentacle lovin', and if i can find a way to attach it, some musical preview of the stuff myself and Nate (Diatonic Records) are making for the soundtrack (as created by him with input from myself).

Long Vacations, Short (er) Production Schedules

It's been a while, with a few vacations and the start of school contending for my attention, but back to work!! the production cycle just got a lot shorter, as AI of Tampa will be having a student film festival at the end of the quarter and i wish to submit "Fever Dreams". To make up for a lot of lost time, i am taking off 2 weeks from my job slinging food at chili's during the latter half of February, where I plan on getting the bulk of this project produced. I am also starting the soundtrack today, as I am feeding the story, times, and general info about the project to my friend, whom shall be credited, who will act as the composer for all music and some of the sound fx. More as it comes!!
